Okay guys... if you haven't already done an escape room yet, you need to put this on your bucket list immediately! I had the pleasure of being able to enjoy my first escape experience at Lockology, and it certainly won't be the last!
If you're still wondering what exactly an escape room is, I'll tell you. But just know, each experience and escape room objective is different, so if that doesn't get you eager to find out more about this new thrilling hobby of mine, than I don't know what will.
Before I can go into my experience, I want to inform you how to go about getting an escape room and what it entails. For starters, you have to figure out which room you want to do! They have a Crime Scene Investigator, Haunted Prison, Mayan Temple of Knowledge, and another one coming soon! (Make sure you book your spots online ahead of time), once you get there, you'll get a quick rundown of the rules, and then "locked" into the room of mysteries. You'll have 60 minutes to work through the escape room while solving clues and puzzles to complete your escape room's objective.
Now that we covered the basics, let's dive right in.
My group and I did the Mayan Temple of Knowledge and it was intense to say the least. Before we started our mission, we were informed that the success rate to escape that room was 33%. If that wasn't intimidating enough, the entire room we were "locked" in, was themed perfectly to what you would think a Mayan Temple would look like. And if you haven't ever been on an exploration in a temple before...then you may have spent the first few minutes just trying to figure out where to even begin.
Each clue we came across gave us a rush of excitement, and left everyone determined to decode the next puzzle. It takes strategy, working together, and following the signs/clues that an archaeologist would have to take in order to uncover valuable findings (and to escape). The room was dark, and the only way to have a good look at what you were solving and doing was to use a lantern. I would be lying if I said I didn't feel like I was Indiana Jones the whole time. The room makes you feel like you are in a real life movie, the interactive technology that was used throughout our mission had us actually thinking there was an angry Mayan God who wanted to keep us there forever unless we proved our worthiness in our mission by having to critically think and solve his clues. The thought of being stuck in the temple forever (or losing this game) had my adrenaline pumping the ENTIRE time. And speaking of time, that goes by SO quickly when you're in there.
Thankfully the Mayan God is always generous enough to give his visitors (future prisoners) a total of 3 clues (which we carefully used throughout). And with 5 minutes to spare in our mission, we successfully passed all of his trials of knowledge and logic, and were released back into the world where we could share our great discovery of the long lost ancient Mayan Temple of Knowledge (and my discovery of a new hobby!)
So with my experience I say this, you must go here ASAP!!! And try Mayan Temple of Knowledge first! It is one that you won't ever forget! Whether you wanna go with friends, family, or coworkers, this activity is fun for everyone!
Thanks for reading!
PS-If you go, have been to an escape room before, or want to recommend one to me, please leave a comment!
Being @columbusfoodtroll, I of course love food. BUT I also love to do activities that are also un-food related! I love trying new things especially when they are the kind that you wouldn't typically think to do...until you just go for it!
